Coating specifications are the common ground between the customer and the coating applicator. It defines both what the customer expects for their purchase, and what the applicator is required to do. Good coating specifications improve an uncoated item by adding certain coating characteristics to the part with a properly chosen and applied coating. Corrosion resistance, wear resistance, lubrication, abrasion resistance, anti-galling, non-stick and color are major improvements that can be engineered into the manufacture of an item.
Before creating a written specification, we consider the following factors to benefit both the user and applicator.
